What to wear
Clothing suitable for the weather! It is best to wear lightweight clothing, breathable if possible, in layers in case you get too warm. Jeans are not recommended as they restrict your movement also getting heavy and cold when wet and making you too hot in the summer. Walking boots are fine as we may be on rough terrain, waterproof ones would be ideal! Bring along waterproof trousers and jacket, again – just in case – again breathable is best. A hat and gloves may be an idea, if you do wear gloves they will need to be thin in order to fit in to the hand straps on the poles.
What to bring
A small ruck sack is good to put in all the clothes you may need to take off as you warm up, along with a drink and a few snacks just in case . Any medication you may need.
Where to meet: Look out for the Banner Flag!
Chagford Pool Car Park: A small donation needs to be made for parking, (only when the pool is open) unless you will be using the pool after the walk! If we are lucky, the cafe at the pool will be open (Summer months only). Otherwise the nearest cafe and toilet facilities are in Chagford town centre.
Park in the car park and meet in front of the cafe. The building and cafe are open every day, in the winter 10-4pm, longer opening hours in the summer months, toilet facilities are available.
OCRA Pavilion; you can park in the car park by the tennis courts behind the school. It may be busy, the parking is free, otherwise Simmons Park car park, pay to park. OCRA pavilion has toilet facilities along with a café for food and drink.
Parklands Leisure Centre: you can park as above. Meet in the reception area. There are toilets and changing facilities along with a cafe for food and drinks.
Finch Foundry Car Park. There is a lovely cafe on site too, however it is only open April to November. The nearest public toilets are in South Zeal's recreation ground.
Belstone Car Park, opposite the Village Hall. Meet by the wall by the sloping common. There are no toilet facilities in Belstone, but we will be having coffee and tea after our walk at the ‘Old School Tea Room’ which does have facilities.
