Description

In Walks with Winnie, Winnie, the Working Cocker Spaniel and now Scooby, a rescued Fox Red Lab, guide us through twelve beautiful walks in and around North Dartmoor, Devon. Taking picturesque paths through bluebell woods, over and around abundant rivers and reservoirs, walking up on to breathtaking open moorland, and visiting Dartmoor’s many tors, including High Willhays the highest tor on Dartmoor.

Denise Horner has been walking on Dartmoor for over thirty years. Having lived near the famous Warren House Inn for a time, Dartmoor was her back garden. Animals, dogs, sport and the outdoors has been her life.

With various dogs over the years, including Diesel, a Chocolate Lab, and now Winnie, Denise, with a background in fitness training, has been taking Nordic Walking groups out on the moors to explore and get fit since 2014.

The combination of walking with her dogs, and exploring Dartmoor with her groups whilst also keeping fit, has been the inspiration for producing this book.

Each walk has an illustrated map by Sara Nunan who has been illustrating and designing books and maps for over twenty years, together with photographs to help and inspire you along the way. It also includes a fun little flick book at each page corner, of Winnie and me walking with you.

Also stocked at: Artisan, The makers shop, Chagford, Sticklepath stores and cafe, Sticklepath, The Old School Tearooms, Belstone and Moorish Moments, Lisa, the mobile cafe, Fernworthy Reservoir Car Park.

This is such a little gem.
Although not a dog owner, I am a keen Nordic Walker and Walks With Winnie is an ideal guide book for walking on Dartmoor.
In addition to the essential information of distance, time and grid reference location, it offers clearly described routes with many interesting facts about geographical, geological and historical features one may pass on the way.
It is beautifully illustrated with a hand drawn depiction of each route, great photos and little extra drawings to add a bit of fun.
